What It Really Takes To Be a Software Developer

Becoming a software developer and landing a software job is a dream for many people. It provides a good work-life balance, and it’s also fun to do. Being a programmer is enjoyable, but is it too hard? Does it take a particular kind of person to become a software developer? Maybe you’re one of these people asking yourself if you have what it takes to become a programmer. Perhaps you’re wondering if it’s worth it to try and learn programming and switch careers.

What does it really take to become a software developer?

About a month ago, I made a video about the difference between noob coders and proficient coders. I received some interesting comments from a user mentioning that the difference between proficient coders and new coders is the ability to “form a mental model”. A proficient developer needs to be able to convert written or verbal information into basic coding building blocks. He was saying that a software developer should have high-level thinking when approaching a problem.
When you ask online what it really takes to be a software developer, many responses emphasize the qualities that good software developers must possess. I agree with most of these responses, including Tony’s insight.

However, I believe there are some steps missing here. When I was first starting to learn how to code, I couldn’t do what Tony was saying because I was new and lacked programming experience. It was only through experience that I developed these qualities.

Therefore, I think the skills and qualities of proficient software developers can be acquired through a specific set of prerequisites.

In this video, I’ll be discussing those prerequisites you need to acquire the skills and qualities of a proficient software developer. Doing so will help you understand what is really entailed if you want to switch careers or become a software developer.

In this video, you’ll learn:
✅ the 4 prerequisites for success as a software developer
✅ what the journey towards being a software developer entails
✅ how success isn’t tied to your natural intelligence

Thank you for watching, and happy coding! 💻🧡
