Why Git and GitHub Are Important

Whenever I talk to beginner programmers and they tell me that they’ve never used Git, I suddenly have this urge to teach them how to use Git and just go over the basics with them.

As a programmer with 10+ years of professional experience, I’ve used Git everyday to work with my coworkers and to build my own personal projects.

It’s a really helpful tool, and whenever I hear these beginner programmers tell me that they’ve never used Git, it’s like them telling me that they don’t know how to use a dishwasher or they’ve never used a dishwasher.

Maybe you’re one of these people who don’t use a dishwasher, but you get what I mean lol. When you realize that you can actually use a dishwasher to speed up your dishwashing, then you really want to teach other people to use the dishwasher, or in this case, to use Git.

I do understand, though, why beginner programmers don’t use Git because I was once a programmer who didn’t know Git. I actually went through my whole college career not knowing Git, and when I graduated from university, I had my engineering degree, but I still didn’t know Git until I entered the workforce.

In this video, I’ll be explaining why Git and GitHub are important. I’ll also talk about my own experience in my companies and how I’ve seen the beauty of Git in our software development. I hope it really encourages you to use it in your software development as well!

Thank you for watching, and happy coding! 💻🧡
